Kat, I really enjoyed reading your post. I was a heavy Diet Coke drinker for years. Once I stopped drinking Diet Coke and was only drinking water, almost a gallon a day, I thought all was well but 9 months later found out that I was still dehydrated because my kidneys were so fatigued from processing all the carbonation in the soda I used to drink, they weren't functioning right.

I worked with an herbalist to get my kidneys back to working properly and I'm no longer dehydrated.

I think many people "think" they're drinking enough water. I love how you've outlined ways to determine how much you're drinking and then how to increase water intake.

I use a 32 oz cup that I refill 3 to 4 times a day. I never want to "starve" my body of water again.

I'll be posting about your article on my FB and twitter accounts. Drinking plenty of water is a good thing for people to include in their New Year's resolutions.

I knew you'd agree with my daughter and girlfriend. Well it so happens that I might get back into drinking more water, because it was recommended as part of taking this new nutritious superjuice I am starting to consume daily. I'll let you know if I feel even better than I already do without drinking water (although I will not be 100% sure whether I feel better due to the juice or due to the water--that is always the problem in a world of cause and effect, isn't it?)

Hi Mimi - thanks for your kind comment. I appreciate it! I have read the "half your weight in ounces rule" before and it makes sense to me. A 200 lb man would certainly seem to need more water than a 120 lb woman. Eight glasses is just the basic guideline. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hi Claude, nice to hear from you. Hmmm, I know you are in great health, so it is surprising to me that you drink so little water. Everyone is different. The 8 glasses is just a guideline -- and of course you are getting water from your food and other drinks. I do wonder how you might feel if you drank more water -- whether it would increase your energy or enhance some other areas of your well being. (Guess I'm with your girfriend and daughter on this one :)

My girlfriend and my daughter always tell me I should drink more water, but I just don't get thirsty and rarely drink. I guess everyone's different, right Kat? But great blog anyway, for those who do need to drink water. When I drink, I love good tasting water.

Hello Kat!
I read your wonderful article with great interest. I am a believer that good tasting water is one of the most important keys to having a high level of energy - which is necessary if we want to feel happy! And I suggest drinking half our weight in ounces (if we weight 120 lbs, we should drink 60 oz a day). Thank you so much for this informative and inspiring piece!
I'll be sharing your post with my friends!
